Another highlight of 2018 to share…whilst I am still catching up on photos and memories through my phone, was the Saint Laurent SS19 Show held in Paris. This was by far one of my favourite shows ever attended (if you know me well enough you’ll know Saint Laurent is one of my favourite brands)!
Models walked on water against a stunning backdrop of the Eiffel Tower lined with White Palm trees – There really is no contender with the Eiffel Tower…no extras needed. The location itself was absolutely phenomenal and we were lucky to have a beautiful (and slightly too warm) sunny day.
The collection itself was classic YSL with a Seventies feel; updated (flawlessly) cut suits, a fun spin on the little black dress – think frivolous feathers, and sultry kaftans that make any woman want to pack her bags and party on until the sun comes up on a warm sandy beach…okay…I’m thinking of what I would like to be doing at this minute but take a look and you will wish you were doing that too.
The following day we were lucky to view the collection up close at the Showroom visit in the Grande Palais, Paris. The 95 look collection also has an undertone of ‘Americana vibes’ with stars and oversized bows, dramatic hats and seventies embellished platforms. The classic blazer has been reinvented in so many ways by Saint Laurent and whilst there is so much focus on the oversized trend – which I do love, I absolutely adore a well cut sharp blazer and the brand did not disappoint! The tuxedo jackets were given a Western update with Bolero-style embroidery and studded embellishment (who doesn’t love a bit of Turquoise set against Silver) and there was a strong smattering of Gold and Silver intricate beading and embellishment, taking these Tuxedo jackets past curfew.
For the brave, there was a metal cape intricately woven together by small Gold Stars – which fell over shoulders and ribcage in the most beautiful fluid way but it did indeed weigh rather a lot. Or an update on the little black dress – with Crystal embellishment woven into a waist citing super smooth skirt.
I got carried away taking a million images and have shared but a few from the Show and the Showroom…
