Sotra’s SS17 collection presented models draped in midi shirt dresses and relaxed kaftan-style open jackets layered over casual separates. There was a minimal feel to the cut and style yet an injection of print and colour giving it an urban undertone.
Models walked the show wearing flat loafers, giving the collection a sense of androgyny-something we have seen come about in many SS17 collections. There was no room for feminine frills, but more a sense of relaxed comfort for the modern globe-trotting woman of today and definitely a lean towards the Middle Eastern modern woman who like strong design aesthetic with minimal detailing.
Colours were earthy from rustic salmon tones to more vivid bursts of orange against cooler pale grey/blue tones. An interesting colour combination yet complimentary of the various rugs that were displayed throughout the presentation!
Overall the collection was easy to the eye and the one standout piece for me was actually the most minimal yet boldest in colour – the mid-length tunic/dress in a deep tangerine shade with a contrast of white and blue to the sleeves.
The collection was definitely true to the designer’s ethos of “encapsulating the vibrancy of the women who wear them.”
