It’s a heard feat to follow on from Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent. What he did for the brand in 4 years was undeniably brilliant. He bought back tailoring for the woman whilst turning it up a notch with higher hemlines, sheer sex appeal, and skinny pencil-thin heels.
So how did Anthony Vaccarello follow on from the super successful creative director?? He took what the previous designer had brought to the brand, and teased it with 80’s style mini-dresses, gold lamé and even sequins. I’m not talking your average 80’s Grace Jones metallics-but more of a cool modern take on sharp sleek tailoring and mini dresses with sheer fine layers of the finest lace skimming the body, paired with slim trousers and leather skirts.
Vaccarello hasn’t stayed away from current favourites either. There were leather bomber jackets layered over denim for a more laid back vibe and slouchy boyfriend jeans unusually paired with fitted evening blouses, showcasing plunging necklines and dramatic shoulders.
The leather was shorter, the heels thinner, and necklines lower. I love this collection and absolutely adore the spindly YSL heels (I have a love for a super-high pointed pump) – There’s something so french and rock’n’roll about this style of shoe and it works like a dream against leather and lace!
This is one of my favourite collections by far-but then I’ve always been a sucker for leather and lace!
